Women's sober living near Azusa

Azusa has the deepest residential treatment concentration on the Los Angeles side of our service area, and it is the clearest example of the gap this house fills. Fifty licensed treatment beds discharge people who need somewhere sober to live next. The city has three sober living homes to receive them, and all three take men only.

Treatment and hospitals

Azusa has no licensed hospital (CHHS facility data). What it has is treatment, and a lot of it.

The River Community, 23701 East Fork Road, (626) 250-3300, is a licensed and certified 38-bed residential programme for dual diagnosis — co-occurring mental health and substance use (DHCS licensed facilities). Pathways Recovery Center, 1033 North Soldano Avenue, (626) 515-6424, is a licensed 12-bed residential detox (DHCS).

Both are referral partners, not competitors. Dual-diagnosis clients are among the hardest to place afterward and MAT is common; we accept women on prescribed medication for opioid use disorder. We are not a treatment programme, provide no clinical care and do not supervise medication.

Women's meetings

No women's AA meeting is listed inside Azusa (LA Central Office; SGV Central Office). The nearest are Glendora — Women's Rule 62, Fridays 6:30 p.m., 827 South Lone Hill Avenue, Covina — Women's Stag, Saturdays 10:00 a.m., 432 North Barranca Avenue, and Covina — Women's As Bill Sees It, Mondays 6:30 p.m., 510 South 2nd Avenue (SGV Central Office).

Residents pick their own recovery support program, secular or faith-based. We do not designate a program, require a particular meeting, or hold meetings at the house.

Survivors of domestic violence

Some of the women we house are leaving an abusive home rather than a treatment bed. For them the housing question is the whole question — the practical alternative to a bed is often going back to the person she left.

We do not publish the address of the house. It is given only to accepted residents and to the agencies that refer them. And to be clear about what this is: Her Aria is not a licensed domestic violence shelter. We do not provide protective services, security services, legal advocacy, restraining order help or safety planning. Those stay with a woman's own advocate, attorney and law enforcement agency.

There is no DV shelter inside Azusa. The named providers for this area are YWCA of San Gabriel Valley, (626) 960-2995, 24-hour line (626) 967-0658, Peace Over Violence, (626) 584-6191, 24-hour line (626) 793-3385, and House of Ruth at (909) 623-4364 with a 24-hour line at (877) 988-5559 (LA County DPSS). County-wide, the LA County DV Hotline is 1-800-978-3600 and the District Attorney's Bureau of Victim Services is (800) 380-3811 (LA County DA).

What Azusa doesn't have

This is the clearest gap in our service area. Azusa has three sober living homes listed, and all three are men's — Cornerstone X at (626) 536-3028, and Pathways 1 and Pathways 5, both at (626) 348-4805 (Sober Living Network). The CCAPP registry lists no certified residence in the city at all (CCAPP).

Fifty licensed treatment beds discharging people who need housing, and no women's recovery residence in the city. We are 22 minutes east: women only, gated, MAT welcome, one monthly fee, no deposit. Refer a client.

Getting here from Azusa

Foothill Transit Line 188 runs Azusa – Claremont – Montclair Transit Center — a single-seat ride east with no transfer (Foothill Transit). The Metro A Line has Azusa stations (Metro), and Line 187 connects Azusa, Arcadia and Pasadena (Foothill Transit).

Residents keep their own jobs, prescribers and court dates. Getting to them without a car is the test that matters.
