El Monte, California

Women's sober living near El Monte

Three licensed treatment programs, the courthouse and the probation office all inside the city — and the largest residential program is men only.

20 miles, about 26 minutes from the house · one monthly residency fee covering every utility, internet and laundry, with no deposit

El Monte is the best-connected city in this set and one of the densest referral clusters. The courthouse, the probation area office and the county welfare offices are all within city limits, and three DHCS programs operate here. The largest residential program among them takes men only, which means every woman it turns away needs somewhere else to go.

Treatment and hospitals

El Monte has no licensed hospital of its own (CHHS facility data). What it has instead is treatment. Three DHCS programs operate in the city:

Omni Center, 3426 Cogswell Road, (626) 453-3406, is licensed and certified for residential detox with 38 beds — men only (DHCS licensed facilities). That makes it a pure referral partner with zero overlap: it never competes for one of our beds, and the women it cannot take still need housing. Mid Valley Outpatient Services, 11046 Main Street, (626) 636-2370, and HealthRIGHT 360, 11227 Valley Boulevard, (626) 444-0705, are both certified outpatient programs (DHCS).

Outpatient treatment only works if a woman has a stable place to sleep. That is the gap this house fills. We are not a treatment program and provide no clinical care of any kind.

No women's AA meeting is listed inside El Monte (LA Central Office; SGV Central Office). The nearest are La Puente — 12 Step Book Study (women's), Saturdays 10:30 a.m., 15911 Main Street and Covina — Women's Stag, Saturdays 10:00 a.m., 432 North Barranca Avenue (SGV Central Office).

Residents pick their own recovery support program, secular or faith-based. We do not designate a program, require a particular meeting, or hold meetings at the house.

Survivors of domestic violence

Some of the women we house are leaving an abusive home rather than a treatment bed. For them the housing question is the whole question — the practical alternative to a bed is often going back to the person she left.

We do not publish the address of the house. It is given only to accepted residents and to the agencies that refer them. And to be clear about what this is: Her Aria is not a licensed domestic violence shelter. We do not provide protective services, security services, legal advocacy, restraining order help or safety planning. Those stay with a woman's own advocate, attorney and law enforcement agency.

What El Monte doesn't have

The CCAPP registry lists no recovery residence in the city, and there are zero network listings (CCAPP; Sober Living Network). Three treatment programs, a courthouse and a probation office generate referrals here every week, and the only residential beds in town are reserved for men.

We are 26 minutes east on the same rail line: women only, gated, MAT welcome, one monthly fee, no deposit. Refer a client.

Getting here from El Monte

This is the strongest transit case of any city we serve. El Monte Station is the western terminus of the Foothill Transit Silver Streak, which runs Los Angeles – El Monte – Pomona – Montclair, and Line 492 runs El Monte – Arcadia – Montclair Transit Center (Foothill Transit). The Metro J Line and Lines 70 and 76 all terminate at El Monte Station (Metro), and the Metrolink San Bernardino Line runs direct from El Monte east through the valley (Metrolink).

A woman placed here can keep an El Monte job, an El Monte prescriber and an El Monte court date without a car. That is the difference between a placement that holds and one that fails in a month.

Referrals answered the same day. Refer a client or see what's included.
