Women's sober living near Monrovia

Monrovia is a city where we have real competition, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. There is one women's sober living home listed here already. What Monrovia also has is a licensed detox discharging people who need housing, an established women's meeting in town, and no certified recovery residence at all.

Treatment and hospitals

Monrovia Memorial Hospital, 323 South Heliotrope Avenue, (626) 408-9800, is a small facility — 49 licensed beds, with no emergency department and no psychiatric beds (CHHS facility data). Referrals here come from treatment rather than hospital discharge.

United Drug Rehab Center, 1213 South California Avenue, (626) 239-6965, is a licensed and certified 12-bed residential detox, co-ed (DHCS licensed facilities). It is the only DHCS programme in the city, and it is a referral partner: a short co-ed detox discharges women who then need a sober place to live.

We provide housing only — no clinical care, no counselling, no case management, and no detox.

Women's meetings

There is a women's meeting in the city: Women's Here & Now, Wednesdays 7:00 p.m., Saint Luke Episcopal Church, 122 South California Avenue (LA Central Office of AA; SGV Central Office).

Residents pick their own recovery support program, secular or faith-based. We do not designate a program, require a particular meeting, or hold meetings at the house.

Survivors of domestic violence

Some of the women we house are leaving an abusive home rather than a treatment bed. For them the housing question is the whole question — the practical alternative to a bed is often going back to the person she left.

We do not publish the address of the house. It is given only to accepted residents and to the agencies that refer them. And to be clear about what this is: Her Aria is not a licensed domestic violence shelter. We do not provide protective services, security services, legal advocacy, restraining order help or safety planning. Those stay with a woman's own advocate, attorney and law enforcement agency.

There is no DV shelter inside Monrovia. What Monrovia doesn't have

Monrovia is a direct-competition city and we will not pretend it isn't. The Sober Living Network lists one women's home here — May House Sober Living, (626) 226-8905 (Sober Living Network). The CCAPP registry lists no certified residence in the city (CCAPP).

One home is not a market. If it is full, or it is not the right fit for the woman in front of you, we are 26 minutes east: women only, gated, MAT welcome, one monthly fee, no deposit. Refer a client.

Getting here from Monrovia

The Metro A Line has a Monrovia station (Metro). Foothill Transit Line 270 runs Arcadia Station – Monrovia – El Monte Station, and from Arcadia the Line 492 continues to Montclair Transit Center (Foothill Transit).

Residents keep their own jobs, prescribers and court dates. Getting to them without a car is the test that matters.
