Women's sober living near Pomona

Pomona has the one hospital in this corridor with linkage staff you can call by name, and the only residential program nearby that takes women with their children. What it does not have is a women-only bed for the woman who finishes that program.

Treatment and hospitals

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, 1798 North Garey Avenue, has 427 licensed beds (HCAI); its 24-hour emergency department has 72 ED beds and states it provides stabilizing care regardless of insurance coverage (PVHMC Emergency Services). It also publishes named linkage contacts: a Behavioral Health Navigator at 909.630.7323 and a Substance Use Navigator, Sherrie Cisneros, at 909.865.9501 ext. 3324 (navigator page). If you plan discharges in this region, that navigator line is the number to keep.

Women's meetings

Two women's AA meetings, both midweek: WOW Women's, Wednesdays 6:30 p.m., Triangle Club, 1655 Berkeley Avenue (San Gabriel Valley & Pomona Valley Central Office) and Women's Participation, Wednesdays 7:30 p.m., Ganesha Recovery House, 1557 Ganesha Place (Inland Empire AA).

Celebrate Recovery with women's groups: Purpose Church, 586 N. Main Street, Building H100, Tuesdays 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., which states it runs men's and women's groups for chemical dependency, stress, anxiety and depression, codependency and life issues (Purpose Church); and the Vine, 2801 N. Towne Avenue, Thursdays 6:30 p.m. (the Vine).

Survivors of domestic violence

Some of the women we house are leaving an abusive home rather than a treatment bed. For them the housing question is the whole question — the practical alternative to a bed is often going back to the person she left.

We do not publish the address of the house. It is given only to accepted residents and to the agencies that refer them. And to be clear about what this is: Her Aria is not a licensed domestic violence shelter. We do not provide protective services, security services, legal advocacy, restraining order help or safety planning. Those stay with a woman's own advocate, attorney and law enforcement agency.

What Pomona doesn't have

A women's bed. Five recovery residences are listed in Pomona — Homes of Promise I, Pathways 2, The Harmony House Recovery, Total Restoration Ministries and Vision House — and the gender categories the directory lists for the city are men and co-ed, from about $800 a month (Recovery Housing Directory — Pomona). A woman finishing Prototypes or American Recovery Center has no women-only listed bed in her own city.

Her Aria is nine minutes east: women only, gated, with every utility and internet included. Refer a client.

Getting here from Pomona

Foothill Transit 197 runs Pomona Transit Center to Claremont to Montclair Transit Center and 480 runs West Covina to Pomona to Montclair — both single-seat rides, no transfer (Line 197, Line 480). The Silver Streak (707) also serves both cities (Line 707). Adult fare is $1.75 a ride or $6 for a day pass (Foothill Transit fares).
