Women's sober living near Rosemead

Rosemead has no general hospital, but it has something rarer: two psychiatric hospitals inside city limits, holding 215 licensed beds between them. One of them recorded 4,371 psychiatric discharges in a single year. Co-occurring women leaving those units are the referral this house is built to take.

Treatment and hospitals

BHC Alhambra Hospital, 4619 Rosemead Boulevard, (626) 286-1191, is an acute psychiatric hospital with 97 licensed beds, all psychiatric, and recorded 4,371 acute psychiatric discharges in 2024 (CHHS facility data). L.A. Downtown Medical Center — Ingleside Campus, 7500 Hellman Avenue, (626) 288-1160, holds a further 118 psychiatric beds (CHHS).

That is 215 psychiatric beds in a city of fewer than 55,000 people. There are zero DHCS-licensed treatment programs in Rosemead (DHCS licensed facilities), which makes the referral story here psychiatric discharge planning rather than substance use treatment.

Women leaving a psychiatric unit with a co-occurring substance use history are among the hardest placements in the county, and MAT is common. We accept women on prescribed medication for opioid use disorder. We are not a treatment program, provide no clinical care and do not supervise medication.

Women's meetings

Rosemead returns no AA meetings of any kind in the San Gabriel Valley directory (SGV Central Office). The nearest women's meetings are Arcadia — Sober Sisters, Saturdays 10:00 a.m., 4165 East Live Oak Avenue and Arcadia — Women's Speaker Meeting, Sundays 3:00 p.m., 4165 Live Oak Avenue (LA Central Office), plus San Marino — Women's Home At Last, Wednesdays 1:00 p.m., 2560 Huntington Drive (SGV Central Office).

Residents pick their own recovery support program, secular or faith-based. We do not designate a program, require a particular meeting, or hold meetings at the house.

Survivors of domestic violence

Some of the women we house are leaving an abusive home rather than a treatment bed. For them the housing question is the whole question — the practical alternative to a bed is often going back to the person she left.

We do not publish the address of the house. It is given only to accepted residents and to the agencies that refer them. And to be clear about what this is: Her Aria is not a licensed domestic violence shelter. We do not provide protective services, security services, legal advocacy, restraining order help or safety planning. Those stay with a woman's own advocate, attorney and law enforcement agency.

There is no DV shelter inside Rosemead. County-wide, the LA County DV Hotline is 1-800-978-3600 and the District Attorney's Bureau of Victim Services is (800) 380-3811 (LA County DA).

What Rosemead doesn't have

The CCAPP registry lists no recovery residence in the city, and there are zero network listings (CCAPP; Sober Living Network). Two hundred and fifteen psychiatric beds, more than four thousand discharges a year from one hospital alone, and nowhere sober in the city for any of them to go.

Getting here from Rosemead

Rosemead's eastbound path runs through El Monte Station, where the Foothill Transit Silver Streak and Line 492 both continue east to Montclair (Foothill Transit), and where the Metrolink San Bernardino Line picks up the same corridor (Metrolink). Metro Lines 70 and 76 connect Rosemead to that station (Metro).

Residents keep their own jobs, prescribers and court dates. Getting to them without a car is the test that matters.
